Men's basketball scores a zero
Issue date: 10/4/07 Section: Sports
In the Graduation Success Rate report released yesterday by the NCAA, the Terrapin men's basketball team ranked last among all of Division I schools with a score of zero.
The score measures how many freshmen who entered the program between 1997 and 2000 graduated within six years. According to a story from The (Baltimore) Sun, the Terps scored the lowest in the nation - none of the 10 players included in the report graduated within the six-year time frame.
The score represented a drop from 18 from the previous report, which covered 1996-1999. The GSR is different from the Academic Progress Rate, which carries penalties when a school scores too low.
- Compiled from staff reports.

This survey seems flawed. McCall, Holden and Cephas all graduated and all started during 97-00. Therefore, our Graduation Success Rate should be at least 30%--pretty good for a school that had a national title, a final four, a sweet sixteen, and 4 total NCAA appearances during that time. I agree with Mike. The survey seems to have some flaws in it. During that time we had more than 10 players come through our program and there were some that graduated. (Continued…)

Those of you defending these numbers.... You're kidding, right?
Are you seriously making excuses for this pathetic outcome? The point is simple -- at the University of Maryland, men who entered the basketball program from 1997 to 2000 DID NOT graduate from the University of Maryland. (Continued…)
