Two days after the Terrapin men’s basketball team braved snowy conditions to defeat North Carolina, the Athletics Department has announced Wednesday’s game will not be played in potentially similar circumstances.

The Terps’ game against Virginia, slated for 7 p.m. at Comcast Center, has been postponed in the face of another snowstorm headed for College Park. It will instead be played Feb. 15. Starting time and television information were not announced.

University personnel worked hard to get Comcast Center ready to play Sunday’s game after much of the area received at least two feet of snow earlier in the weekend.

The Athletics Department urged season ticket holders to not take unnecessary risks driving to the game and let all students who showed up to the 17,950-seat arena, even without a ticket, into the game. Officials estimated between 2,000 and 3,000 additional students were on hand for the Terps’ 92-71 win against the defending national champions.

Athletics Department releases during the weekend cited an ACC policy that encourages games to be played if the opposing team and at least two officials make it to the arena. In this case, the Cavaliers were already in town, having made the drive from Charlottesville, Va., on Monday.

But with the threat of another foot of snow or more coming to the already buried campus, the Athletics Department made the preemptive move Tuesday afternoon.

The Terps return to action Saturday afternoon at No. 8 Duke in a game between the ACC’s top two teams.
